Rating (out of 5): ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Price We Paid: $180.00
How long I have had it: 2.5 years
Pros: built to last, sturdy sole, ankle support, water resistant, great for blister prevention with the correct socks, comfy (but not until you break them in), great grip
Cons: does not breathe, hot, if they get wet they do not dry quickly, heavy, require wool socks for hiking in them
Would we buy it again?: YES, but I would buy them online. I think I overpaid because I wanted to be able to try them on. Now that I know this specific style fit me very well I would save money buying them from Amazon.
Comments: These have been replaced by III’s now, but the design looks very close to the same and you can still get some overstock of the 2.0. These boots were purchased after our first backpacking experience where I just had a pair of regular $30 hikers. By the time we were done my feet looked like one big blister and Mrs. Horizon and I had to limp around work for the next week as a result. After that we decided if we were going to continue backpacking we were going to break down and spend some serious money on boots. Now I have nearly 1000 miles on these boots and they are still in really good condition. I have never had a single blister while wearing them. I was close with a pretty bad hot spot on our trip to the Smokey Mountains where they were soaked by a tropical storm. They have slogged through 6” of solid mud, staying dry, while backpacking the Porcupine Mountains. They have dust from the floor of the Grand Canyon and from the top of Mount Katahdin! They sat perched in a yurt down in Georgia and hiked through snow covered mountains of Wyoming. These boots have been with me on so many of our trips from our short weekend warrior day hikes, to our section hikes of the Appalachian Trail. They are my favorite hiking buddies, besides Mrs. Horizon, of course! They are starting to show some minimal wear and tear and will eventually need to be replaced, but they have been worth every penny because they allow me to get out and enjoy nature. I was able to get great footwear that held up to allow me to travel to the places I love and see things in real life most only see at their computer screen.
Check them out on Amazon!
