Monthly Successes:

August was a fantastic month! We got married, had a beautiful ceremony at our church, and an incredible reception at one of our favorite state parks! We got our first mortgage statement and started paying on the house. We added two new items to our monthly numbers to show our percent paid off and total approximate interest saved. We are working on a tool for everyone to use an amortization schedule to help them pay off their mortgage and save money along the way. On top of all of that, we took an amazing trip to the national parks in Wyoming! We hiked through the Teton Range and visited the sights of Yellowstone while hitting Theodore Roosevelt on the way out and Badlands on the return. While all this craziness was going on, we were able to find a few extra dollars to increase our baseline savings into our brokerage accounts.

Monthly Shortcomings:

We had some very cold mornings during our trip which caused us to break down and spent about $30 over 10 days on store bought coffee. Sometimes getting out the camp coffee pot when it is 25°F is very difficult! Also, while on our trip we ate out a lot more than anticipated. This happens most during the drive. We don’t always stop and make sandwiches or hot lunch like we should. We had to spend an extra $40 on items Mrs. Horizon forgot at home. Including our rain jackets so we bought Frogg Toggs rain ponchos which were actually really good! (gear review on these coming soon)

Comments:

Mr. Horizon stopped his contributions to Lending Club. He has been working on it for the last 30 months and has reached the $10,000 amount he wanted to use for evaluation. He will be doing a review at some point in the future. Soon we will be adding gear reviews to the website. The reviews will focus on items we feel strongly about, whether good or bad.
